FOC Darkroom Session 2009
By ervinelin • Jul 12th, 2009 • Category: Latest Photo ProjectEvery year I try to find time to teach a few enthusiasts the basics behind the traditional silver print. I do it for only the costs of materials as a way to help spread the love of film photography.
Since digital photography took over in the past couple of years, most people have given up their darkrooms for inkjet printers. While I personally prefer the convenience and quality my inkjet can give me, as an art form, the traditional silver print still has it’s place and time.
Here are the prints that were made in this years session. (Unfortunately due to time and space constraints I can only take on 2 students at a time.)

That’s me with a print from my Yishun Causeway shoot. This was printed on Ilford FB Glossy.

Another shot from the causeway. I was essentially just testing to make sure the enlarger was still working. It’s been almost a year since I last fired it up!

Here’s a photo Eddy took with his Yashica GSN. FB takes too long to dry, so the student’s photos are all RC.

Here’s a shot of Ponggol I believe. Looks like an easy print to make but we had some problems with the sky.

Here’s a photo I took while in Hainan Island. It was shot with an old point and shoot Olympus film camera which I loaded with B&W film just for fun. YiYong here printed it.

Awesomely gloomy looking photo also taken In Hainan Island, I think it has a really has a nice feel to it. The last I heard, this particular building has since been demolished to make way for a main road.
On average, it takes about 1 hour to fine tune and print each photo. It can actually take MUCH longer if we weren’t pushing for time and running out of paper. Even the slightest change in a particular variable can have a marked difference in the final print.
Yup! That’s this years session! Till the next time (if any)!
